Airline Cabin Baggage Policies

Responsible airline passengers should always see to it that they are updated on recent changes in baggage policies. If you're preparing for an upcoming flight, take the time to review the baggage policies of your preferred airline company to avoid paying extra fees upon check-in. There are airline companies that charge extra for oversize bags during check-in. Some companies also institute exact size of cabin luggage (such as they must fit under passenger's airplane seat). It is highly recommended that awareness be imposed to frequent travellers.

Listed below are some of the changes in baggage policies imposed:

United Airline - if traveling within Europe, 1st bag checked in is for free. Maximum weight allowed is up to 50lbs or 62 linear inches. 2nd bag checked is charged $50. If traveling within US, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico or Canada, 1st bag checked in is for 20$ - $25 (depending on the period when the ticket was bought). 2nd bag is for $25 - $35.

AirTran Airways - International flight passengers are given a free check-in for one bag only. 2nd bag checked in is charged $25. Domestic flights for AirTran charges $15 for 1st bag and $25 for the 2nd bag.

Excess baggage of 51-70lbs is priced an additional $50. While a $100 fee is charged for excess baggage that reaches 63-160 linear inches.

Over the years, other airline companies are constantly implementing their own changes to their baggage policies. There are some airline companies that vary their baggage rates depending on when the ticket is purchased. So its always best to keep yourself posted and updated on any current changes in the policies of your favourite airline company.
